I'm Samantha

Hello Friend! I am Samantha, aka Sam. I created Sam’s Simple Décor back as an Etsy shop in 2013 while I was in college working on my BS of Architecture. I initially created my Etsy shop to try and raise money to fun a study abroad trip to Japan. Long story short, I did not raise the money from my Etsy shop (I still went to Japan though!) however, my small shop picked up shortly after I came back from my study abroad.

When I first opened my shop, I tried to sell everything and anything from paintings, wood art, string art, and posters. All the different mediums were too much for me to handle, so my boyfriend suggested I focus on the art prints. Why prints? I went to school for architecture and a huge part of my education involved graphic design. What better way to practice my skills than to create art on the side? It was the best choice for my business and I never looked back. Over the years I have expanded my shop from prints to offer wedding prints, invitations, and custom interior design packages.

In September of 2020 my side-hustle turned into my main hustle after I was laid off from my architecture job due to the pandemic. The architectural industry was hit hard from the economic turndown. However, it took some time to get my shop going again as I took a year off to focus on the preparation and recovery from major orthopedic hip and femur surgery that I had back in February 2020.

Even through all the ups and downs of running my small business - I still enjoy every second of it. All of my products are designed, printed, and packaged in my small home office studio in Chicago. I put all my heart and soul into my work and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did as I was creating it. Thanks for reading and stopping by! If you ever want to chat, feel free to send an email - even just to say Hi! You can reach me at contact@samssimpledecor.com

  • I have my BS and Masters in Architecture. I was laid off due to the pandemic and am now focusing on my small business full-time.

  • I am a born and raised Chicagoan who is too stubborn to leave the city.

  • In my free time, I volunteer at the local animal shelter and help adopt out bunnies to their forever homes. I am a crazy bunny lady and have two buns on my own, Oreo & Ginger.

  • Some of my hobbies include: baking cakes & bread, embroidery, calligraphy, photography, dancing, and ice skating.

  • You may be wondering what my about me photo is all about. In 2019 I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia after having chronic hip pain my entire life. In February of 2020 I had two major reconstructive and preservation surgeries to correct my bone deformities. I had a periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) and femoral osteotomy (FO) and recovery spans from 3 - 6 months. I am a hip dysplasia advocate and work with a hip dysplasia organization to raise awareness about the condition.

  • My favorite food is pizza with a dessert of donuts and a strawberry daiquiri to boot. (I know, what kind of combination is that?!)

  • I hate folding the laundry more than anything in the world. Who wants to come do it for me?!

  • I am obsessed with Fall Out Boy and have been since I was in the 8th grade. I have gone to over 10 concerts and have met all of the band members. #noshame

  • When I am not busy doing all of the things, you can find me lounging in bed scrolling Tik Tok for hours. Please don’t come for me.
